Today, on Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) Awareness Day, we’re celebrating the incredible journey of one of our amazing clients — Harrison! From his very first PT session at just a few months old, Harrison has shown nothing but determination, cleverness, and a lot of sass! 💪😄 Over the past four years, we’ve worked together on everything from rolling and sitting to walking independently. Harrison has blown us away with his grit and growth every step of the way! With support from Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy, Harrison has overcome huge hurdles: learning to stand, walk, climb stairs, communicate with AAC, and so much more. What does playing board games have to do with therapy? During speech therapy with Mr. Chance, this friend is practicing his “ch” sounds by verbalizing his “CHoices.” Board games can also be a great way to teach about recognizing emotions and emotional regulation in occupational therapy. When he first started working with Mrs. Janna in OT, this friend got veeeeery frustrated when he wasn’t winning a game. Now, he patiently waits his turn, describes how he’s feeling, practices describing how others might feel when in the same position, AND he can even lose a game without losing his cool, which is a huge win! 🙌🎖️#playlearnachieve #speechtherapy #occupationaltherapy

Meet Summer — a remarkable young woman with a smile that lights up every room! We’re thrilled to celebrate a very special double graduation: Summer recently completed Occupational Therapy and graduated from High School! 🎓🌟💐 Summer has Angelman Syndrome and has spent the past five years working with OT Mrs. Brittany on sensory processing, motor development, feeding skills, self-care skills, fine and visual motor skills, and so much more — all to support her meaningful participation in everyday life. Her care has been a true team effort, with close collaboration between OT, PT, ST, and the incredible support of her mom, Angel. When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Angel started homeschooling to better meet Summer’s unique needs. She turned to Hogg Therapy for one-on-one care, which provided them with tools, equipment, and strategies to build Summer’s independence. From opening Christmas presents to joining Easter egg hunts, Brittany and Angel found creative, adaptive ways to make every childhood moment count. ♥️ Angel shared: 🗣️“We really got what we needed out of therapy because we implement what we’ve learned here at home — and so much of it has become part of our everyday life.” 🗣️“It’s given me the tools to help me parent my child, who has a lot going on, better.” As part of The Joy Project at Hogg Therapy, we were honored to gift Summer professional senior photos to celebrate her incredible achievements. 🎉📸 Summer, your journey inspires us all. Another therapist is on the Hot Seat this week! Meet Taylor! 👋 Taylor is a Speech Language Pathologist who joined HTP in 2024. Taylor is the AAC Specialist at HTP! Many kiddos at Hogg Therapy use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices to help them to communicate better with their therapists and families. These devices can be customized to meet the needs of kids of all ages, and you’ll see many of our SLPs using them during their sessions. As AAC Specialist, Taylor can help parents and fellow therapists learn more about these important devices, along with troubleshooting and offering support and feedback. OT Whitlie shared this Mama Milestone Moment recently: “This mama was so nervous to introduce one of the top allergens to baby - peanuts! The family lives quite a ways from the closest hospital and that made her over the top anxious. Of course, Miss Whitlie invited her to try them here at the Richmond clinic. Baby girl smashed some yogurt and peanut butter mix. We’re happy to say peanut butter is now one of baby’s favorite foods and an easy protein heavy go to snack for mama to offer. Hogg isn’t just here to make sure your baby thrive, we’re here to make sure you do too.
