Physical THerapy

Pediatric physical therapy can help your child achieve and maintain important physical milestones. Our team of therapists and specialists will work with your child to develop the skills necessary for proper development using play-based techniques, so your child has fun while improving their abilities and functions. Our goal at Hogg Therapy is to assist your child with functioning independently and promoting active participation in home, school, and community environments.

Does My Child Need Physical THerapy?

If this is your first time visiting us, you may be wondering if your child can benefit from pediatric physical therapy. Do any of the following apply to your child? If so, he or she can likely see improvements with physical therapy.

  • Not meeting expected milestones within the first year of life, including sitting, rolling, standing, and walking
  • Having a strong preference for turning their head to one side or using one side of the body over the other
  • Walking on the balls of feet, or in another atypical style
  • Frequent trips and falls while walking
  • Difficulty keeping up with peers during play
  • Not able to perform gross motor skills, such as skipping, hopping, and jumping while playing with peers
  • Trouble walking up/down stairs

Goals of Pediatric PT

As pediatric physical therapists, we strive to improve your child’s movement skills. We want to make everyday movement activities easy for your child so that they can be independent and become their best self. Improving mobility, developing or restoring gross motor skills, alleviating pain, and promoting overall health and wellness are a few common goals that a pediatric physical therapist can help your child achieve. Pediatric physical therapists also provide support and advocacy for the family, including equipment needs and coordination of other needed services. Play based activities, family involvement, and one-on-one care are cornerstones of pediatric physical therapy.

What Will Happen in a Session?

At the initial visit, one of our experienced physical therapists will evaluate your child’s needs to determine if they could benefit from physical therapy. If a delay is present, the physical therapist will work with the caregiver and child one-on-one to educate and establish an appropriate treatment plan.

During a session, we will encourage your child to engage in play-based activities designed to improve gross motor skills, strength, balance, endurance, and more. These activities can include playing on large exercise balls, participating in obstacle courses, and/or balancing on a balance beam. We want your child to have fun each session while achieving their goals so that they look forward to future appointments.

Other Conditions PT Can Help Treat

In addition to the previously mentioned conditions that may warrant pediatric physical therapy, we can also help children who have suffered a sports injury or are needing pelvic floor therapy. Our therapists are trained to help children with genetic disorders such as Down syndrome and nerve disorders including cerebral palsy. During your appointment, our therapists will provide you with ideas and activities to continue treatment at home, and we are always available to answer any questions you may have along the way.

Our goal is to help your child to increase their independence and self-esteem through proper physical functioning. We will do whatever we are able to in order to ensure your child meets or maintains developmental goals to provide the best possible long-term outcomes. You will be a partner in your child’s care every step of the way.
